KKN Gurugram Desk | Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a strong and controversial statement regarding the ongoing violence in Murshidabad and 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal, claiming that the situation has spiraled out of control due to state government inaction. The Chief Minister accused the West Bengal administration of appeasement and questioned the silence of opposition parties like the Congress and the Samajwadi Party on the matter.

Murshidabad and 24 Parganas Violence: Background and Current Situation

Violence erupted in several areas of Murshidabad and Bhangar (24 Parganas) in West Bengal following protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The protests turned violent, resulting in arson, looting, and widespread vandalism. Burnt vehicles, destroyed malls, and ransacked pharmacies stood as visible proof of the unrest.

According to local authorities, hundreds of people fled their homes, crossed over to Malda district, and sought temporary shelter to escape the escalating tensions. On Sunday, the streets in Murshidabad remained deserted, with markets shut and residents confined indoors out of fear.

Despite officials’ assurances that the situation is under control, images and testimonies from the ground suggest otherwise.

CM Yogi’s Response: “Rioters Will Not Be Tamed by Dialogue”

Speaking at a public event in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi Adityanath responded sharply to the developments in West Bengal. In his words, “Those possessed by the spirit of violence will not be convinced by words; they will understand only the language of force.”

Yogi further said, “If someone prefers Bangladesh so much, they should go there. Why be a burden on Indian soil?”

This statement sparked reactions across political circles, with many interpreting it as a direct attack on the state administration in Bengal and certain political ideologies that the Chief Minister accused of shielding or supporting the rioters under the guise of secularism.

Central Forces Deployed to Protect Minority Hindus

Yogi Adityanath also thanked the judiciary in West Bengal for intervening and ordering the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the affected regions. He acknowledged their role in ensuring the safety of minority Hindus, he claims have been the target of organized attacks in the wake of the protests.

“The judiciary deserves credit for stepping in when the state government failed to act. Thanks to the central forces, there is now some semblance of for the persecuted communities,” Yogi said.

Opposition Parties Under Fire for Silence

In a pointed remark, CM Yogi criticized Congress, the Samajwadi Party, and Trinamool Congress (TMC) for their complete silence on the issue. He questioned why national-level parties have not condemned the violence or expressed concern for the affected citizens in Murshidabad.

He also accused them of “encouraging anti-national elements” through inaction and warned that silence in such situations equates to complicity.

“Where are those who call themselves champions of secularism now? Why are they silent when Hindus are being attacked?” he questioned.

Murshidabad Continues to Burn as Political Tensions Rise

CM Yogi claimed that Murshidabad has been burning for over a week, with little to no concrete action from the West Bengal state government. He stated that such anarchy cannot be tolerated in a democratic nation and warned that if not curbed, it could lead to deeper national security issues.

While Bengal Chief Minister has yet to respond to Yogi’s comments, state officials maintain that law and order is under control, and any necessary actions are being taken to prevent further escalation.

Political Implications Ahead of 2026 Assembly Elections

Yogi’s comments are being seen in the context of upcoming 2026 Assembly Elections in West Bengal and several other key states. The BJP, which has been attempting to strengthen its foothold in the region, appears to be leveraging the recent incidents as proof of “administrative failure” and minority appeasement under the current TMC government.

His tone indicates a strategy to polarize voter sentiment and appeal to the Hindu nationalist base in states beyond Uttar Pradesh, including Bengal.

Hardoi Development Projects Overshadowed by Political Heat

CM Yogi was in Hardoi to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for 729 development projects worth ₹650 crore. However, the political weight of his comments regarding Bengal overshadowed the developmental agenda of the event.

The projects included roads, schools, facilities, and irrigation developments aimed at boosting rural infrastructure in the region.

The Trigger: Protest Against Waqf (Amendment) Act

The initial protests began against the recent Waqf (Amendment) Act, which critics claim strips Muslim communities of their rights over religious properties. However, what started as peaceful protests quickly turned violent in areas like Murshidabad and Bhangar.

Eyewitnesses claim that unidentified groups took advantage of the unrest to instigate violence, destroy public property, and provoke communal tension.

State authorities are investigating whether the violence was spontaneous or orchestrated, with several arrests made and FIRs filed under various charges, including rioting and destruction of public property.

Law and Order in Bengal: A Recurring Question

This is not the first time West Bengal has been in the news for law and order issues. In the past few years, there have been multiple instances where political and religious unrest has disrupted public life in the state. The current incident adds to a growing narrative that the state administration is struggling to maintain peace amidst communal and political polarization.

Yogi Adityanath’s remarks have reignited debates around federalism, law enforcement autonomy, and the role of central forces in maintaining order in states.

National Outlook: Rising Communal Sensitivities and Governance Gaps

With elections approaching and communal sentiments on the rise, incidents like those in Murshidabad risk becoming political flashpoints. While BJP leaders like Yogi Adityanath portray themselves as defenders of Hindu interests, opposition parties accuse them of communalizing issues for electoral gains.

Nonetheless, the unrest raises critical questions about:

  • The safety of minority communities, regardless of religion

  • The capability of state governments in handling violent uprisings

  • The partisan silence of major political parties during national crises

  • The constitutional role of the judiciary and central agencies in intervening during state-level law and order breakdowns

CM Yogi’s strong statement on the Murshidabad violence has once again highlighted the growing rift between state-level governance and national political narratives. While some hail his tough stance as a call for law and order, others view it as political opportunism ahead of key elections.

Whatever the may be, the situation in Murshidabad and 24 Parganas serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of communal harmony in India and the need for impartial, swift governance to restore peace and justice for all communities.
